Notebook 1 - 5e
Why is it that the mother in most separation cases, get most and possibly all custody of the child/children? It seems that mothers get the majority of custody rights no matter what the situation is. Being in the state of Utah especially, with the culture of the state, mothers typically have automatic rights without even having a sure answer from the courts.
Notebook 2 - 2a
What is your personal experience with your social justice issue? My closest friend just went through a divorce. He has a 14 month old daughter. I myself am married and have a 22 month old daughter so it made me put myself in his situation and imagine what that would be like. Doesn't sound fun at all.
What assumptions might you carry in regards to the issue or problem? The court system sides with mothers almost always over the father. I understand in certain cases, the mother should get most custody, if not all sometimes. However, I feel that the same for fathers. Most of the time, in civil divorces however, I strongly feel the parents should live close enough where 50% custody for both parents is a must. Where the child/ren can attend the same school, religious groups and same friends no matter what parents home they are at.
What kind of research will you do to inform yourself about the issue or problem? I will interview my buddy more regarding the legal part of it. I will do research online and articles regarding court system on child custody.
Where might you find diverse and conflicting perspectives as you research? From a variety of different parents. Different religions, age, number of children, beliefs and more.

Notebook 3 - 8c
I interviewed my buddy Spence. He was honest and open through out the interview. He was detailed, but not over the top with details. I appreciated him sharing his thoughts of going through it and also looking back on the situation as some of his thoughts and opinions changed and some also stayed. When doing essay projects and explaining topics, it's not desired to use fluff or be too detailed. Keep things brief, but with enough detail for the reader to be able to picture the setting. Getting to the point of the topic is important too.
Notebook 4 - 3b
The expertise I have personally on equal parenting rights with divorced/separated parents is that it can easily forever ruin relationships. The family dynamic is messed with. It may be put back together by parents getting re married, however for the child/ren it forever will be a different kind of family dynamic. In many cases, especially in the state of Utah, mothers tend to get the majority of the right and possible all of the rights to the child/ren. However, speaking with a neighbor of mine who is a divorce and family lawyer, he mentioned to me that the reason it appears that way in the state of Utah is because it is very common for the mother to be a stay at home mom or bring in minimal income while the father is making the majority and sometimes all of the income for the family along with possibly getting or have already got a college education. The child support and alimony in some cases, makes up for the time the mother was staying at home and couldn't excel her career or college education.
Notebook 5 - 3e
The most important sources in my piece I would say are my sources. What I mean by that is, my buddy Spence. My neighbor I briefly interviewed and would like to interview in depth. Sources online regarding statistics on my topic. They all equally play a part in my piece. With my neighbor being a lawyer along with having gone through a divorce involving children himself, he is a prime source I'd like to utilize regarding more information for my piece. He has been through a lot and has been on both ends of divorce with and without children. All around, expanding on my sources while also utilizing my thoughts and how I feel connected or involved in the piece.

This is showing the mom and dad having to take on both roles in separated situations. The dad is taking on more known mom roles and the mom is taking on more known as dad roles. Gives a great depiction of what parents attempt to do for their kids in those situations. Kids don't have to always have an actual mom or actual dad, however there are some roles very well known that men do great and same goes for women. It's important for children to get the mom and dad side throughout their childhood when not always with their mom or dad. It also can depict that separated parents can still get along even when they are separated. Co parenting doesn't have to be horrible. It's already hard for the parents and children not having a whole together, famil.y

Notebook 7 - 3d
My current piece I'm focusing on is more of a narrative piece. It starts out right into the moment of the day my buddy called me. I explain of exactly what he said to me and how he felt and his emotions. However, I way I could approach it, is through argumentative piece and or persuasive way. With either of these two options would allow for me to take more of a stand using persuasive facts to back up my opinions. Having personal experience with this will allow me to bring myself closer to the situation. Both options are somewhat going hand in hand. Showing the different ways people could view this topic and how much of an issue this can be, especially in Utah. Having equal parenting rights in separated parents situations is very important when it's appropriate and can take place.
Notebook 8 - 6m
Having equal parenting rights is up for debate. Mothers want the children. Fathers want the children. Having it equal or at least close to equal rights should always take place when suitable and both parents are fit. The father seems to not get much of custody rights. The mother gets most custody. With parents being the child's parent both should get same or as much possible same rights. This doesn't happen in most cases. Change needs to take place. Change most likely won't take place however. Children need to be around both parents as much as possible as both parents offer different qualities and benefit the children all around. The children should also have the opportunity to experience and be raised with both parents.
Notebook 9 - 3f
First, sketch--you can literally do this as a drawing, or with words--two different settings for the events taking place in your current piece. Think about place, about time, about sensory details, about who is there. Second, discuss how you might use any of these details in the piece you're currently working on.
1. Family setting. In the home. Any given time of the day. The parents and children involved. I've incorporated these details already throughout my pieces along with the notebook 10. Discussing the songs, especially Little Toy Gun being centered in the house

Notebook 10 - 6o
I wasn't able to find any songs specifically related to my social issues, the equal parenting rights, however I was able to find some related to either separated parents and or parents that fight a lot which is very common with separated parents fighting for more rights.
Little Toy Gun - Carrie Underwood
This song is about a couple with a daughter (in the music video) always fighting. Never ending arguments between the mother and father. They may not be divorced or maybe they are, it doesn't fully say, however this is a huge issue relating to my topic of equal parenting rights. Arguing is a very common thing between two separated parents. It then makes the child/ren involved in the situation.
Love Triangle - RaeLynn
This song is about a mother and father that are separated with a daughter. The song is a from the daughter's perspective. It explains in the song how the father gets her only on weekends or every other, and then a few weeks in the summer and that's it. Also how much the kid is affected and also the dad explaining his time with her isn't that long . This shows the typical, separated parents with children situation. It's very sad to see the effect it has on this daughter. Great song however.
Every Other Weekend - Reba McEntire
This is another song talking about how the children only get every other weekend with their dad. Many people are impacted when parent split up, however the children are the ones that are most impacted for the worse because of it.
I had a difficult time finding songs related to my issue. I was able to find these three and really have enjoyed the first two. Great messages, and meanings.

Notebook 11 - 5d
What kind of writing currently functions to address the issue at hand for your final project?
Narrative format is the set up and goal for my final project. I am wanting to include actual facts, but mostly focus on my local issue with my own personal experiences with this either in my own life or the life of someone I know personally.
Where does that writing circulate and what specific audiences does it reach?
My piece circulates around families. It's focused in on families as my local issue is equal parenting rights. My audience may seem to appear to be aimed at families, more so parents. I am wanting my audience to be everyone. Regardless if someone is married with or without kids, single with or without kids and or in a relationship with or without kids. Everyone should be involved in this issue that impacts hundreds of thousands of families each year because of the lack of consideration on either parent's end.
What genres seem most effective, and what kinds of documents seem least effective in addressing this issue?
To answer this question, not directly however, but adding real life content such as articles, short video clips/stories or pictures in any way related to separated parents with a focus on the children being impacted by this would then impact the audience involved. Showing people real life events no matter the content seems to impact people more so, than just telling them without actual evidence or visual facts.
How does this information inform the genre your group will produce?
From the start, people will be able to identify that the genre to my piece is visual along with narrative function included. i strongly feel this is the best way with my particular local issue to include and involve to hopefully get people to have a desire to push for a change.

Notebook - Final Activity
My favorite notebook I found most engaging and fun to do was the music lyric one. With this notebook it made me realize that my social issue is a lot more prevalent in society than I realized. Not only is my issue up front, many other issues I'm sure are as I found it easy to relate songs that covered my social issue. They weren't my exact issue, but did relate in a huge way which was as close as i could get, This made me be able to think differently and outside of the general area I would typically think as I would wouldn't normally think it could relate as it doesn't specifically cover or talk about equal parenting rights. I would probably do all of my notebooks all over again in a better and more professional way as I have gotten better and learned throughout the semester.
